Today was the first day of my little mini-centering break from work and it felt pretty darn good. I still had things to do and responsibilities to uphold, but for the most part, I was on my own to do what I wanted to do – so I did!
I actually slept in past 5:30 AM on a work day (yay), and I got the munchkin to school, then I brought some of my crab stuffed eggs up to the boyfriend’s work and also surprised him with a Starbuck’s coffee right at 8:00 AM. It is nice to know that I have a boyfriend who appreciates that I pop up to his work just to see him. With our routines being a little out of sync, it is nice to see him and see how much he enjoys his job.
After the little surprise visit, I ran over to the health food store, which is right next door to where he works and restocked the pantry and fridge some with healthy goodness. By the time I left there and stopped at another store for a few odds and ends, it was nearing my snack and lunch time so I grabbed a tasty smoothie from the smoothie place next to the other store (I love when healthy choices just magically happen to be right where I am when I need it) I went to, which totally hit the spot. It was an awesome Health Nut smoothie with a shot of soy protein. Perfect fuel for the impending gym visit I had planned after I got everything back to the house.
Once home, I got everything put up, played with the pups who were so pleased I came home, and then it was back out to the gym for me. Oh, first I have to mention the awesome new running and yoga music I got prior to leaving the house because once I got to the gym, I was “in the zone” when that running music hit my eardrums. I mean seriously, any playlist that opens with Eat Sleep Rave Repeat (http://youtu.be/NIcW36J-h7Q) has me running with the fiery fierceness of a Goddess lol! Yeah, I kind of went there! ^.~
I am so proud of the fact that I am getting closer and closer to the ten-minute mile. Just 2 weeks ago, I was at a very stern 13-14 minute mile and I am seeing the time edge down with each run. Even my yoga is improving. Beyond just going through the motions of my form and physical practice, I am working on the practice of Ahimsa – one of the cardinal virtues – as well as the eight limbs that make up the art and science of yoga. After a lot of reading, the body isn’t the first step in yoga, it is the third.
Yama and Niyama come before it and now that I am linking these principles with my Asanas (or body postures), I am feeling much more in tune with myself, the practice of Ahimsa, and honing in on getting the breathing or Pranayama down with all of my meditation and poses. As I progress, I hope to be able to gently tackle the other virtues or universal morality practices like Satya, Asteya, Brahmacharya, and Aparigraha. Although, I know this practice is not a race or a competition, it is simply about being one – a whole with my mind, body and spirit.
So, now that I got distracted with sharing the information about what I have been trying to understand about the practice and about myself, I can continue with how this all flows with the rest of my day.
After the gym, I returned home to see that my Klout Perk arrived in the mail and not much longer after that, so did the boyfriend. We talked for a bit and I let him check out my new music and then I had to hit the showers before picking up the munchkin from her safety patrol – end of the school year – party. Holy crap can I NOT believe that she is going to be in middle school next year!
Once we got home, it was time for me to get my evening meal set, which was turkey sausage with peppers, onions, and rosemary, sauteed squash and zucchini with Parmesan and non-dairy mozzarella, a salad, and a piece of that decadent lemon and blueberry vegan bundt cake from a few nights ago. Let me just tell you how much that meal rocked….. A whole hell of a lot!
Now, I am about to go finish of my evening with a bit of relaxation (totally deserved, I might add), some restorative yoga and meditation before bed, and eventually I hope to make it into a nice deep slumber. It will be nice to have Friday to work on my practice and my homework, but for now, I just need a little breather…
Until next time,
