I Got 99 Problems, But Yoga Ain't One

Hello Monday!

Since last I wrote, I have really become inspired to pick up my yoga practices to help eliminate the daily stresses of the world.  I have always gone off and on the Anusara wagon to help recover from much harder workouts, but this time around, I want to use it for multiple purposes.  yes, I still want to keep up on the flexibility, mood enhancements, and recovery from the tougher stuff, but I also want to get stronger and move into the more difficult poses that I am inspired by.

On Saturday, it was such crappy weather, I was unable to make it out for my bike ride like I had hoped, so I hit up the “home gym” I call the living room and completed 81 minutes of cardio dance, bikini butt moves, quick core abs, and deep stretching to burn close to 600 calories!  Sunday was the day I dedicated to recovery and yoga by spending 99 minutes working on poses, stretching mobility, and meditation.  This is also when I decided that I really want to make it a focal point in my training.  I love my bike and getting out there and I love cardio dance, zumba and kickboxing workouts, but I think I feel the best after yoga.

In working out 6 days a week, I think I will dedicate yoga into each day and also incorporate the cardio into at least 3 of those days.

One of my greatest inspirations for picking up the yoga mantle again is a woman named Irene Pappas, or as she is also known, Fit Queen Irene (http://www.fitqueenirene.com/about/).  This lady is amazing, let me tell you.  I can’t even tell you how she ended up in my Instagram stream, maybe a touch of Kismet, I can’t be sure, but I am thankful and look forward to growing in my yoga studies and in my personal evolution through meditation.

I look forward to learning more about the fundamentals as well.  It never dawned on me just how many different practices of yoga there are in way of styles.  I hope to sample as many as I can and find one that fits my style.  Something that allows me to focus and feel calmed is definitely a must.

This morning, I actually rocked out 15 minutes of recovery yoga poses for a good stretch.  I was rocking the camel, pigeon, fallen warrior, down dog, pike, frog, and a few others to get in some form and mobility for the day.  After the poses, I opted for 10 minutes of quiet meditation to clear my mind for the day of work ahead of me.

Currently, I am definitely an Anusara and Hatha girl, but as I get stronger and more in line with my form, I hope to experiment with other forms of yoga and different stylistic approaches.  I also find that the meditation helps me focus when I get intermittent vertigo spells.

In other news, work will be and has been crazy with the company melding, start of term, and the overall chaos of people not transferring knowledge in a logical way.  Mondays are always rough so I am glad I got some medication and quiet time in before the start of it all.  In addition to that, I have to slowly mentally prepare for my final 4 classes – my last term – of school that begin on the 7th of April.  It will not be easy, but the light at the end of the tunnel will be the degree.

Sadly, this break has made me realize just how much I miss the freedom of no homework heehee.  Even when I say that I am suffering from senioritis, I am sure my OCD will only let me slack so much and I will still have a drive to produce good work and strive for an A.  The good news is that in 12 weeks, I will have no more schoolwork and I can focus on other things like travel and personal projects in more depth.

Okay, well, speaking of senioritis, it is time for me to go back to the real world and do something productive!

Cheers! ♥
