Winter Solstice / Lunar Eclipse

Since it was considered a pretty rare occurrence, I decided (while trying to turn over a new i.r.l. leaf) to set an alarm for 3:00 AM so I could try to see/capture the lunar eclipse, which just happened to coincide with the winter solstice.

For practicing purposes, I took a few pictures with my crappy little “point and shoot” at around 9 PM and 11 PM (tested some exposure and flash/non-flash settings, and such), when I got out of bed to pee.  According to some photographer friends, I knew it was going to be tough without a tripod and a camera without some heavier modes, but alas, I did the best with what I had.

From a visual perspective (what I saw with my own eyes in a very clear Florida night/morning sky), it was a really cool experience, even if I am dragging “i.r.l.” ass today.

Anyway, here are the better images from my little point and shoot experience (no edits, just pictures):

So, there it is/was…I am actually glad I was able to drag my butt out of bed and into the cold weather to capture the experience from my own account in the Florida swamps! =)
